Study pinpoints the exact age when the body, organs, and tissues start declining from aging

Being alive means getting older. Despite that, we as a culture tend to glorify youth. “Never trust anyone over 30,” “Lordy, lordy, look who’s 40,” and all that. But the fact is that one of the privileges of staying alive is growing old, and it’s essential to know when our bodies catch up to our age to prepare for it. With that in mind, doctors and scientists have pinpointed the exact age when our bodies rapidly decline.

While past studies have suggested that our bodies rapidly start aging in the range between 40 and 60 years old or in various spurts, a recently published study found that rapid cell aging begins at age 50. Dr. Guang-Hui Liu and the study’s authors focused on age-related protein changes in the body through analyzing 516 samples of 13 types of human tissues derived from 76 organ donors aged between 14 and 68 years old. These tissue samples came from organs responsible for cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, digestive, and immunity functions in the body, along with musculoskeletal, blood, and skin samples. Through studying these samples, the research team noticed that the tissues aged at a more accelerated rate at 50 years old.

A.I. helped archeologists uncover 303 more geoglyphs from Peru.

Archeologists uncover one of the biggest puzzles in history, Peruvian desert floor carvings

A pairing of old-school archeological study techniques with modern technology has led to a bounty of successful discoveries in Peru. Professor Masato Sakai led a joint team consisting of members of Yamagata University’s Institute of Nazca and IBM to uncover and identify geoglyphs, ancient massive desert floor carvings, along Peru’s coastal desert. With the use of IBM’s A.I. technology, they were able to find 303 previously undiscovered geoglyphs within less than six months, doubling the number of known Nazca Lines (as they are called) in the area.

What has been most impressive, aside from the discoveries themselves, is how quickly they were found. These findings mark one of the fastest reveals of new knowledge ever achieved for an archeological study. Traditionally, archaeologists studied the Nazca Lines through ground surveys, aerial photographs, and manual mapping. However, this new approach, which trains A.I. algorithms with thousands of aerial images to detect faint lines and geometric forms, has significantly sped up the search for additional geoglyphs. The trained A.I. was able to analyze terabytes-worth of drone and satellite images to flag any potential geoglyphs for the archaeologists to follow up on and verify.

Drone pilot helps missing dog escape from coyote in dramatic video

Commercial drones have a lot of applications beyond capturing nifty aerial photos for your wedding or real estate listing. In many cases, like disaster and search-and-rescue efforts, they can even help save lives. Natural State Drone Solutions, a company based in Russellville, Arkansas, uses the technology for pet tracking—and, in one dramatic example, they helped a couple rescue their missing dog from the clutches of a coyote.

Chris Laughlin, the company’s owner, detailed the encounter in an interview with Little Rock, Arkansas, ABC affiliate KATV. "The owners called me up and sounded pretty desperate," he said. Jordan and Brook Allen from nearby Morrilton hadn’t seen their dachshund, Whiskey, in four days, after the pup pushed through a loose board in their fence and headed to a wooded area. “We had posted a lot of posts on Facebook about him being missing, and somebody posted saying [to] try to get in touch with somebody with a drone,” Brook told KLRT Little Rock.

She rakes her fingers through his hair and even strokes and caresses his nose. She knows this is her son. She pulls him close, and he falls into her arms. He immediately cries.
