Robert DeNiro is one of the greatest actors in history. But in more recent years he’s become an outspoken advocate for social causes and an even more forceful critic of his fellow New Yorker, President Donald Trump.

Unfortunately, that political activism made DeNiro the target of pipe bombs which were sent to a number of lawmakers and public figures this week. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
Rather than responding with fear or anger, DeNiro used the moment to respond like a true legend: by simply telling people to make their voices heard in the November elections.
“There’s something more powerful than bombs and that’s your vote,” DeNiro said in a statement. “People MUST vote!”
DeNiro also thanked everyone involved who helped spot the bomb before it reached him or anyone else, saying, “I thank God no one’s been hurt, and I thank the brave and resourceful security and law enforcement people for protecting us.”
New York Mayor Bill DeBlasio also chimed in, giving a specific thanks to a security guard working in DeNiro’s building, who spotted the suspicious package and alerted authorities.
“This is clearly an effort to terrorize people politically, to choose people for political purposes and attack them because of their beliefs,” DeBlasio said. “That is the kind of thing we have seen before in this city, and we reject it, and we will not be intimidated by it.”
