Shelter, in its most basic form, is about physical protection from nature and the elements. Yet throughout history, man has built structures that offer solace for the spirit as well. Within the built environment of the modern city, the various architectures of churches and temples tell different stories: Some point upward to the sky, while some direct all traffic in through the front door. Some attract second looks with their ornamentation, while some warn the uninitiated to walk on by. And some, quite frankly, tell us that this was the most affordable space available.

In the following pages, the photographer Will Etling takes us on a tour of the literal foundations of Angeleno faith by viewing the walls we built in order to worship.

There are some days when you’re just looking for a nice, positive laugh. A lot of comedy films out there that are biting, snarky, and mean-spirited. That’s not bad on its own. Such comedy allows people to laugh at the angry parts of life. But those comedies don't always fit the mood you want when you’ve had a harsh day or a day filled with rage-baity news.

On the opposite end, you probably aren’t in the mood for anything that’s too corny, preachy, or have that “we’ve all learned something today” motif that makes you roll your eyes.

Woman who found slur on oil change sticker stunned by dealership's unbelievable response

When dealing with people, especially as employees in the service sector, a person must be respectful and professional. Communicating diligently is a must-have skill for the job and a trait people must possess in general. Unfortunately, we often come across racist people who look for opportunities to put others down. 33-year-old Makayla Starks went to get her car serviced at Kunes Buick GMC in Oak Creek, per PEOPLE. Unfortunately, she returned to find her car with a sticker holding a racist comment. When she felt disrespected and downgraded, good people stepped in to ensure she got an apology and an apt response that helped her feel accepted.

Looking for ways to keep focus, Cirillo took a tomato-shaped kitchen timer and set it for a few minutes. During that time, he focused solely on studying until he heard the timer go off. He found that this approach made it easier for him to concentrate.
