The 2012 Republican primaries commenced this week and already the election has seen political scandals worthy of the books. From Herman Cain’s sexual harassment charges, to Newt Gingrich’s open marriage proposal to Stephen Colbert’s joke campaign, this political season is one you will not want to miss.

Here is a list of books that attempt to give you an inside look into what the campaign trail is really like. Some are fiction and some are non-fiction but they all seek to paint a picture of the truly dramatic, scandalous and stressful lives of America’s politicians.

Neuroscientist turned musician/comedian Alex Riordan discussed how to spot pseudo-intellectuals and how they differentiate themselves from actual intellectuals. For Riordan, who spends ample time with his colleagues at Princeton University as well as his degree-less intellectual friends (because you don't need to go to college to be intelligent), he's identified three signs that helped him separate the fake-it-til-you-make-its from actually thoughtful individuals.

Most people have lost an item or accidentally left something behind, like their car keys, phone, or purse. But for Susan Sinnwell, a simple medical visit to a local Iowa hospital turned into a trash treasure hunt for her grandparents’ wedding rings. When all seemed lost, hope was found, along with the rings, thanks to a portable X-ray machine.

Sinnwell was visiting Grundy County Memorial Hospital for an X-ray and removed her grandparents’ wedding rings for the procedure. It wasn’t until the day after her visit that she realized the rings she had wrapped in a napkin were missing. She then realized she accidentally tossed the wrapped napkin with the heirloom rings into a trash bin before leaving the hospital.

On social media, Sohee Carpenter, a fitness coach with a PhD in sports science and an MS in psychology, recommended a technique known as "temptation bundling," which pairs less enjoyable habits or chores with something you enjoy to make them easier to complete.
