There could be a different kind of sentience after a person dies.

Scientists uncover mysterious 'third state' of existence beyond boundaries of life and death

Regardless of region, economic status, age, or health, there is one thing that unites us all: we’re all going to die someday. However, some scientists are saying that death is not necessarily the end. They’re arguing that after life and death, there is a third state of life. They found that certain cells appear after a body has been deceased and these cells could have consciousness.

In September 2024, Alex Pozhitkov, Ph.D., a bioinformatics researcher at the City of Hope Cancer Center, and Peter Noble, Ph.D., a microbiologist from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, analyzed new multicellular organisms designed by A.I. known as “xenobots” and noticed they acted with autonomy, forming new roles for themselves beyond their predetermined function within a body. Since these xenobot cells appear to reassemble and reorganize into new forms and functions upon a body’s death, Pozhitkov and Noble argue that these cells create a “third state” of life. While the forms the xenobots take wouldn’t materialize in nature, it’s huge that they’re able to adapt to drastic changes in their environment much like the human “anthrobot” cells that exhibit similar behavior.

The advancements of science over the past decade are pretty mind blowing. One fascinating area is the study of stem cells. Recent research into extracting the stem cells from the pulp of wisdom teeth is showing results that are extremely promising.

You probably know about the enamel of your tooth. Every toothpaste commercial talks about it. Beneath the enamel, at the center core of every tooth, is a pulp of loosely connected tissues. This paste of biological ingredients holds cells capable of behaving like neurons. Scientists have found this pulp fires off electrical signals that could be used to regrow spinal nerves and help patients to walk again.

Green Day asked a fan to join them playing guitar on stage. He played 'Wonderwall' instead.

Green Day have developed a very sweet, heart-warming tradition on tour: bringing up fans from the crowd to let them strum the guitar part—and occasionally even sing—during their emotional closer, 1997 ballad "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)." But during a gig in Luxepo, Luxembourg on June 30th, 2025, the big moment turned awkward after the fan in question failed to lock in on the chord progression—and then seemingly launched into another '90s acoustic alt-rock classic, Oasis' 1995 hit "Wonderwall." We can’t know exactly what was rushing through their mind that night, but it sure looked like an epic case of onstage trolling—and, regardless, the entire world interpreted it that way.

But let’s back up. In audience footage posted across social media, Armstrong scans the crowd and finds the interested guitarist—though there appears to be some confusion over whether or not they could play the song. "This could go really great," the frontman says. "Or…" After a brief hiccup, the fan starts strumming the primary verse progression: G, C, and D. But when it comes time to switch to an E minor, they get lost and stop, with Armstrong laughing in disbelief ("You told me you could play [the song]!") and telling them the next chord.

Swiss man walks into a Philadelphia hospital and walks out with two hand transplants

When Switzerland’s Luka Krizanac was 12-years-old, he had a case of strep throat that turned deadly. As a result of mismanagement in his treatment, the strep throat turned into a life-threatening sepsis infection. In order to survive, he had to have his legs and hands amputated. Now, 17 years later, Krizanac gets to shake hands with the surgeon and Philadelphian hospital staff that gave him a successful double hand transplant.

"I started hoping for this as a child," Krizanac told CBS News. While Krizanac was able to walk as a child thanks to prosthetics, there were no prosthetics available or sophisticated enough to replace his hands. Now, as an adult, Krizanac is elated at his ability to text on his phone and hold a water bottle.

Ford CEO's response to 'young people don't want to work here' is just what Gen Z needs to hear

Ford CEO Jim Farley noticed a problem at the car manufacturing company when he sat down to negotiate new terms and contracts with the union leaders. According to his veteran staff and the demographics of his employee roster, he was told “young people don’t want to work here.” So did he try to make Ford more appealing with snacks or a more youth-oriented, fun-focused work environment? No. He decided to go old school and copy a method done by founder Henry Ford himself back in 1914: give the young workers raises.

“The older workers who’d been at the company said, ‘None of the young people want to work here. Jim, you pay $17 an hour, and they are so stressed,’” Farley said to Walter Isaacson in an interview. In the conversation with longtime workers, he found out that many of his younger temps and newer staff were struggling to make ends meet, with some of them working eight-hour-long shifts at Amazon before clocking in to work their seven hour shifts at Ford each day. After finding out these workers were getting only three to four hours of sleep per night, Farley knew something had to change.

But one Illinois family has shown what it truly means to rally around loved ones and put the "village" concept into action. Mary Lentz, known as @maryinthemiddle on Instagram, recently shared the heartwarming story of how her father stepped up to be the primary caregiver for his granddaughter after Mary's sister became a single mom.

"⚡️ my sister and parents are all around heroes ❤️," Mary wrote in the caption of a touching video. The clip begins with Mary traveling from California back to her hometown. Mary lovingly describes her sister as the family's "spice of life," sharing amusing videos showcasing her spirited personality.
