Early October, we asked you, the GOOD community, to help us create a Picture Show about your favorite trees. During the month, we received images that captured many aspects of trees, including old gnarled roots and branches in full bloom.

Unfortunately, we were unable to fit all of the entries into the slide show. But we did our best to select a handful that represents these incredible plants. (Captions by the photographers.) Above, we present to you the collaborative Picture Show created by none other than you, the GOOD community.

Pediatric psychologist explains how 'body doubling' can unlock people's productivity

Having trouble concentrating on a task can happen to anyone, whether they have ADHD or not. Assignments, chores, and other boring or tedious tasks that come with work or home life can be hard to stay focused on and do well. If this happens often, a pediatric psychologist has a recommendation that works for both kids and adults: have someone else in the room with you.

Licensed psychologist Dr. Mark Bowers says that "body doubling" can help you stay focused and get your work done. Body doubling simply means having another person in the room while you work. It could be a friend, partner, or parent. They do not need to help or even talk to you. Just having someone else present can help you stay focused and get things done.

A 2025 study revealed that people choose partners based on more factors than just common religious beliefs, political affiliation, core values, and hobbies. Remote touch sounds impossible, but we can, in fact, sense objects without physical contact

Sometimes it can feel like you know something is present without seeing it or touching it. A scientific study just investigated our ability to "feel" things without contacting them. This isn't a science fiction movie. It's reality, and they're calling it "remote touch."

A 2025 study explored humans' abilities to sense objects in sand. Participants were asked to detect hidden cubes by sifting their hands through sand without touching them. Subjects successfully discovered the objects with 70% accuracy. The research demonstrates that humans can detect objects buried in the sand before physical contact, indicating a form of "remote touch" previously believed to be exclusive to shorebirds.

Former monk explains how to transform your debilitating anxiety into a performance enhancer

Anxiety plagues the mind with stress, fear, and overthinking for many people. Many well-meaning friends could see you looking anxious and just tell you to relax and calm down. “Calm down”? Easier said than done. However, one former monk has a different piece of advice. When you feel anxious, instead of calming down, amp it up.

Mindfulness expert and ex-monk Cory Muscara recommends that people take their anxiety and reframe it into excitement. Muscara claims that a stressful or an anxiety-inducing experience creates physiological energy and bodily responses (increased heart rate, blood pressure, etc.) that is similar to excitement. By imagining the stressful situation going extremely well and creating more positive imagery, the mind could shift that anxiety feeling to one of excitement without changing much of how your body physically reacts. This could be an easier way for people to reduce their anxiety compared to trying to calm themselves down, both in mind and body. This isn’t just holistic advice as there is scientific evidence showing that mentally shifting from anxiety to excitement can benefit anxious people.
