Submissions: Show Us What Los Angeles Street Food Means to You

Last week we asked Angelenos to send us their tastiest street food shots. Here are our favorites, from tropical shave ice to bacon-wrapped hot dogs.

Last week we asked Angelenos to send us their tastiest street food shots. Delectable photos were dispatched from across the Southland, from East Los Angeles taco stands to Wilshire Boulevard's pop-up "food court" to an art walk in Santa Ana. Our mouths watered as we viewed the images of vendors serving up the sidewalk delicacies like fluorescent-colored shave ice and those infamous bacon-wrapped "danger dogs" (so many danger dogs—you people are obsessed!).

Now it's time for you to vote for the best street food photo of them all. The winner will receive two VIP tickets to the LA Street Food Fest's Summer Tasting event coming up on Saturday, July 16. Voting will be open through noon on Friday, July 8. Pick a favorite and cast a vote. Thanks to all who submitted!

Which sibling pairs are closer, brothers or sisters? Research answers the age-old debate.

The sibling dynamic brings out the best in some people. At least in theory, if two people share blood, shouldn’t that result in a feeling of closeness? Growing up, I always envied my peers who had legitimate friendships within their families. In contrast, I fought constantly with my immediate older brother—we’ve only settled into a healthier, more comfortable relationship as adults, with teenage angst in the rear view.

But everyone’s situation is different. Some people lose touch with siblings as time flows on, pulled apart by life's responsibilities. For others, the maturity of adulthood heals once-festering wounds. Sibling dynamics ebb and flow like any friendship, but is there a discernible difference between brother and sister pairs throughout life? A man was walking across Japan alone for 256 days. Then he met a tiny Shiba Inu.

For 256 days, Kantaro Inagaki walked across Japan alone, documenting his incredible journey for a growing online audience. But on day 257, his solo adventure took a heartwarming turn that would make him and his new companion internet famous.

Inagaki’s journey, which he calls the “Walking Tour of Japan,” began from a simple desire to better understand his own country. “I’ve spent a lot of time exploring the world, but at some point, I realized that I didn’t know my own country, Japan, as well as I should,” he explained in an exclusive interview with Upworthy. “The idea of walking across Japan started as a simple thought, but when it came to me, I felt an overwhelming excitement deep in my heart.”

A Japanese aquarium's sunfish got lonely. Their low-tech solution was brilliantly adorable.

When the Kaikyokan Aquarium in Shimonoseki, Japan, temporarily closed for renovations late last year, the staff noticed one of their most popular residents was not doing well. A beloved ocean sunfish had stopped eating and started exhibiting strange behaviors, and no one could figure out why. After exhausting the usual medical explanations, a staff member floated a wild theory.

“Maybe it’s lonely because it misses the visitors?” they suggested, according to a post on the aquarium's X account.

New report ranks the best and worst states for mental health in America

Many of us are trying to get better. Better at managing our emotions. Better at treating other people with kindness and respect. Better at stewarding our mental health in healthy, effective ways. All of that requires availability, access, a positive environment, and time to address our unique issues. With that in mind, Mental Health America conducted research and released a report ranking all 50 states and Washington, D.C., to identify which have the most mentally healthy citizens and provide the best mental health care resources and access.

Mental Health America is a nonprofit organization focused on promoting mental health and protecting against mental illness across the United States. After analyzing 17 data measures, including surveys, they've published their 2025 report.
