Winner: Doodle "Something Good in the World"

We received hundreds of submissions for our latest doodle project. See the three winners and a selection of the best runners up.

Last month GOOD and Cole Haan partnered to challenge you all with the latest Doodle project, "Doodle Something Good in the World." Submissions ranged from very personal views on the world, to topical news that everyone could related to.

As a reminder, our panel of judges included me, members of GOOD's editorial department, and Cole Haan, and the group was tasked with picking the top three illustrations. All three winners were eligible to receive a GOOD T-Shirt and Cole Haan gift certificates ($500 for first prize, $250 for second, and $100 for third).

We're pleased to announce the three winners this round are Tobie Roach, Dominic Abbate and Jisoo Kang. Please see their amazing work below.

He stopped to pick up some trash by the road. Inside was a parent's worst nightmare.

Character is often revealed in small, unseen moments. For Shawn Davis, that moment arrived at a gas station in Texas when he spotted a piece of paper lying on the ground. According to a report from KENS 5, the paper was worn, bearing tire marks that suggested it had been there for some time.

Davis decided to do a simple good deed and clear away the litter. “I thought, ‘Hey, I'll just throw that away real quick,’” he recalled in a statement to LOCAL 12. But when he picked it up, he noticed it felt heavy. His curiosity led him to open it, revealing an envelope filled with a stack of $20 bills and a personal money order.

A pink apartment door

A mom built an 'apartment door' for her daughter who can never live alone, and it's beautiful.

For many, a first apartment is a rite of passage, a symbol of independence. But for 18-year-old Leah, who lives with a rare and severe form of epilepsy, that milestone is out of reach. So her mother, LissaJade, found a beautiful and creative way to bring that experience home to her.

In a now-viral TikTok video, LissaJade (@Lissa.jade1) revealed the touching transformation of her daughter's bedroom entrance into a private "apartment door." She painted the door a rich cerulean blue and adorned it with a wreath, a mailbox, a doormat, and the number "206." She even installed a working doorbell.

He accidentally bought an entire street for $5,000. The city's response made it a nightmare.

In 2021, Jason Fauntleroy thought he was making a straightforward investment, placing a $5,000 bid at a sheriff's auction for a vacant plot of land in Trenton, Ohio. But when the deed was finalized, he discovered he had purchased much more than he bargained for: the lot, and the entire private road it was attached to, Bloomfield Court.

The bizarre mix-up, which even Trenton's City Manager Marcos Nichols admitted he couldn't fully explain, instantly made Fauntleroy the owner of a street lined with five homes and responsible for its maintenance. What began as a simple land purchase soon spiraled into a multi-year battle with the city, as reported by WCPO 9.

Craig Shapiro was an early investor in Purple Rain: The Musical, an upcoming stage adaptation of the beloved 1984 Prince film. But this major opportunity wasn’t just about business—it’s the realization of a "lifelong dream" that began in childhood.

"I’m a massive fan," he tells GOOD over Zoom from his home in Washington D.C. "I have two older cousins who were almost like big brothers to me—one is six years older than me, and one is nine years older. When I was a little kid, they were really into Prince. It was the first music I remember. I looked up to them: 'Oh, my God, they are the coolest guys in the whole world!' Whatever music they listened to, I said, 'I’ve gotta listen to that.' We used to go to the beach in the summer [growing up], and they brought a cassette tape of Purple Rain. I was like, "This is dripping with awesomeness.’"

A man knew he was being fired. The 'support person' he brought to the meeting is legendary.

It remains one of the most legendary "how to quit your job" stories in internet history—except he didn't quit, he was fired. When copywriter Josh Thompson of Auckland, New Zealand, received an ominous email from his employer requesting a meeting to "discuss some matters in regards to his role," he knew what was coming. But instead of walking in with his head down, he decided to turn a grim moment into a masterpiece of comedic absurdity.

According to a report by the Good News Network, Thompson took advantage of a New Zealand law allowing employees to bring a "support person" to disciplinary meetings. Rather than a family member or friend, he spent $200 to hire a professional clown.
