Illustrator Yao Xiao thinks people are overly apologetic when they should be thankful instead. “A few friends of mine would always say 'thank you for hanging out with me' and I couldn't figure out why it was so nice to hear it," she told A Plus. “When I thanked people, it brought to light the fact that we just did something together—and that realization made us both happier."

An apology is a show of humility by one, but a well-placed “thank you" uplifts everyone. “To me it is not about correcting behavior," Xiao says. “It is about taking an extra step when you are capable. I know that when I say 'sorry I'm taking up so much of your time,' I just want to hear someone say 'it's okay, and I like spending time with you.' It comes from the same place, and people understand it."

But for Susan Sinnwell, a simple medical visit to a local Iowa hospital turned into a trash treasure hunt for her grandparents’ wedding rings. Sinnwell was visiting Grundy County Memorial Hospital for an X-ray and removed her grandparents’ wedding rings for the procedure. She then realized she accidentally tossed the wrapped napkin with the heirloom rings into a trash bin before leaving the hospital.

A racist slur on an oil change sticker led to an unbelievable act of kindness

When 33-year-old Mikayala Starks took her vehicle for a routine oil change at Kunes Buick GMC in Oak Creek, she was left devastated by an employee's hateful act.

As she recalled to PEOPLE, it wasn't until later that day that she looked at the service sticker and made a shocking discovery. “While they were supposed to be servicing my car, an employee typed up a racial slur [the n-word] and put it in the comment section of my oil change sticker,” Starks said.

Teacher shatters Guinness World Record after working at the same high school for 61 years

As a kid, did you ever think about breaking a world record? If you did, you likely found that doing so takes skill, talent, and, in most cases, time. One woman set a Guinness World Record by dedicating her life to educating children in her community. Glenda Akin earned the title after teaching for 61 years and 43 days.

Starting her career in 1963 at Westmoreland High School in Tennessee and retiring in 2024, Akin set the female world record for the longest teaching career at the same school. She beat the previous male record holder, Paul Durietz, by seven years and became the overall record holder. Akin served Westmoreland High School as both a teacher and a librarian throughout her tenure.
