President Barack Obama delivered a sober speech upon accepting his Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, Thursday (video after the jump). Speaking with grace and poise, Obama juxtaposed the nonviolent accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi with the "hard truth," as he put it, that "we will not eradicate violent conflict in our lifetimes." His willingness to acknowledge contradictory ideals and realities-often in the same sentence-will likely draw ire from his critics, just as it will appeal to his supporters.
