Happy spring! Here in New York, a city that actually has seasons, the thaw is officially almost over. And unless you're like my friend Berger, you haven't been riding all winter, which means your bike might need a little work before you hit the road.

This handy primer in yesterday's Times offers useful advice about how to get your ride up to snuff for bike season. For a schedule of New York workshops on how to fix your own two-wheeler, visit Times Up's calendar here. For a list of tune-up shops, click here.

If you live somewhere other than New York, do a Citysearch or Yelp search for well-reviewed repair shops in your area. Most tune-ups only take about a half hour. Finally, if you want to go the DIY route, Jim Langley's site pretty much rules. For more information, check out this article and these videos.
