This Week in GOOD

Another week has passed us by, friends. The Messenger, which GOOD helped produce and develop, is now showing in New York, and, as of today, in Los Angeles. It tells the story of a young soldier who’s charged with the task of notifying families of our war dead. It’s quite moving, if we do say so ourselves, and it’s might help you remember what to be thankful for.

For the full recap of this week in GOOD, head…

This Week in GOOD

Hello, friends. Sunday, November 15 is the twelfth annual America Recycles Day, a celebration of recycling and buying recycled products. Treehugger is calling attention to the massive E-Waste problem we face these days, and explaining why proper recycling is crucial.

We’ve got a gorgeous new weekly wrap-up here. Get it? Got it. Good.

This Week in GOOD

The tragedy at Fort Hood casts a dark, wide shadow, and it behooves us—as a nation, as individuals, and as global citizens—to ponder the plight of those who are afflicted by violence, whether on American soil or anywhere in the world. But keep in mind that the shadows will pass, and that even in death there is the opportunity for learning. To see what we learned this week, head here.

This Week in GOOD

Spooky, scary…Halloween is just about upon us, friends, so let’s go to the Poe House. We began the week by applauding the monumental, grassroots climate-action events mobilized by 350.org, receiving a lovely email from Paris, and viewing another Brooklyn on a wall. We learned how technology can ease traffic, that pop-up education can really inform, and in which countries murder is most and least prevalent.

We also released a new video on innovations in emerging cities,…

This Week in GOOD

On Monday, we learned about an Atlanta museum dedicated to an exploration of the sometimes divisive and abstract concept of patriotism, before  getting thoroughly punked by the Yes Men. We also started getting dispatches from the Alliance Youth Movement summit in Mexico City, and overheard a conversation between Wooster and the street artist C125. We urged developed nations (like ours) to pay our climate debts, lost our appetites over some sickness-inducing foods, and kicked off a new series…

This Week in GOOD

We kicked off the week with the second half of our discussion of design and branding in social ventures, followed by a look at a new online sharing organization in Los Angeles. We also differentiated fact from fiction in data visualization, celebrated the most bike-loving cities in the country, and feasted our eyes on some children’s-lit-inspired street art.

We opined on how climate action could better legitimize Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize, reconsidered the lobster (in term of…

This Week in GOOD

Three cheers for the release of the first annual GOOD 100, our collection of the most important, exciting, and innovative people, ideas, and projects improving our world. Congratulations to everyone and everything on the list—you’re a pretty remarkable group.

We’d also like to applaud President Barack Obama, on his gracious reception of the Nobel Peace Prize today. It’s should make us proud, as American’s to see a sitting president bestowed with such an honor. It clearly…

This Week in GOOD

Happy Park(ing) Day, friends. As you can see, today is the day that people the world over transform metered parking spaces into temporary parks, and in a very real and visceral manner, champion the notion of a people-centric public realm over car-centric public one. In addition to the photo finery before your very eyes (more after the jump), check out this Flickr set, via Twitter user @bloch_party for photos of people celebrating the day in New…

This Week in GOOD

It goes without saying that today is a day that needs to be remembered. Perhaps the best way to do so is to offer some form of kindness to a stranger this weekend. In the mean time, here’s a look at the last few days at GOOD.

The abbreviated week commenced with a profile of New York City’s alluring, oddball mayoral candidate, Reverend Billy, and a look Joe Berlinger’s new film, Crude, which delves into the…

This Week in GOOD

Unless you live in Utah, this Friday comes as the start of a long-awaited weekend, a time for us to reflect on the week’s events—from Edward Kennedy’s passing to the end of ‘real war’ in Darfur.

Amid such a heavy week, we looked at violence in Tijuana, tracked the growth of food stamp usage, and discussed Turkey’s nuclear crossroads.

But it hasn’t been all serious business around here.  We also found the time to play pranks at…
