Clean Getaway: A James Bond Style Passport Stash

This invisible drawer offers a place to hide your valuables, and it looks good.

It’s well known that people try to hide valuables around their homes. From mattresses to kitchen freezers, the most traditional hiding places are also the most obvious. Japanese firm Torafu Architects has developed a solution to this problem with the “Clopen” shelf, which offers an unexpected space to stash your precious goods.

The Clopen is a floating aluminum shelf clad in a wood veneer. While it appears to be solid, the shelf actually contains a 23-mm-thick hidden drawer that is only accessible with the use of magnetic keys. It’s the perfect place to store important belongings, such a jewelry or passports.

Torafu Architects have moved into the production phase but have yet to release any information regarding the availability or cost. Stay tuned.
