Idea: A Simple Device to Catch Rain and Water Your Plants

The Raindrop Mini provides an easy, attractive way for urbanites to collect rain the way their rural counterparts have been doing for years.

GOOD has written about rainwater collection as a smart way of reusing resources in the past, but it's usually reserved for homeowners.

Thanks do a new product from Dutch designer Bas van der Veer, now people in small rental properties can get in on the action. Called the Raindrop Mini, the gadget was designed specifically with apartment balconies in mind. It plugs directly into your storm drain, capturing rain for later use in an integrated pitcher. And when you're done with it, you can recycle the Raindrop Mini with the rest of your plastic.

It's a compact, streamlined, good-looking way to help combat climate change from the comfort of your own urban shoebox. And if and when you decide to move to the 'burbs, van der Veer offers the Raindrop, a larger rain device with a hose attachment for lawns.
