This gem of a newsreel shows us how Spanish painter Salvador Dali and company dinner-partied in 1941. The party, called “Night in a Surrealist Forest,” was held in the Bali Room of the Hotel Del Monte in Monterey, California and served as a fundraiser to help European artists displaced by World War II. In Dali’s world, whimsy and imagination trump reality: unicorn costumes, pet lions, and sole fish dishes roam free. But remember, “the party is surrealism, but them frogs is real!”
