Dr. Megan Meier is earning kudos from mothers and doctors everywhere after a photo of her attending to a player at a high school football game has gone viral. Meier is seen in the photo performing her duties as a physician while very pregnant and with a child on her back. “This is what happens when you are 35 weeks pregnant, husband leaves town for the weekend, childcare for 3yo falls through, and you have a game to cover!” she captioned the photo she posted to a physician mothers group on Facebook.
Dr. Megan Meier is a sports and dance medicine physician in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and even though she had no childcare that night, she couldn’t miss her important job tending to players at a Putnam City North High School football game. So she strapped her three year old to her back and got to work. “I really believe that you can have it all and find a great balance to a multi-faceted career and life,” she wrote on a later post. “However, it takes a lot of hard work and improvisation at times.”

I want to thank all of you who have taken an interest in me and more importantly, in this photo.

I posted this to a group of physician mom’s because I thought they would enjoy it–seeing a visual representation of what we all do each and every day. I am overwhelmed by all the positive feedback and support the members of this group have given. I really believe that you can have it all and find a great balance to a multi-faceted career and life. However, it takes a lot of hard work and improvisation at times.
Most importantly, it takes a strong community of people supporting each other to make it work. Thank you to “Physician Mom Group (PMG) for ‘getting it.’ Thank you to all my family, friends, and colleagues for all the love and shares. Thank you to the teams (that includes athletic trainers, coaches, players, and parents) that I cover, from PC North High School to the University of Oklahoma to the OKC Ballet–I appreciate your support of women (and their families) in medicine and in sports. We have come a long way in 2016.
