School suspensions during freshman year seem to have a lasting effect on students’ high school careers—but not in the way they are intended. According to a new series of reports released from the UCLA Civil Rights Project, a student suspended even once in ninth grade is less likely to graduate from high school compared to his or her peers who never got in trouble.
