Choose Your Vice

  • Video by: Max Joseph , Chris Weller
  • Posted: September 12, 2008 at 5:56 pm

The Vice President of the United States is an attack dog in campaign season, a tie-breaker in the Senate and, ultimately, the back-up  Decider. McCain chose Sarah Palin, the folksy, first-term governor of Alaska. Obama chose Joe Biden, a 35-year veteran of the Senate with a reputation for speaking his mind (for better or worse). They’re a heartbeat away from the presidency. Who’s ready? An original GOOD Video.

Wow, so basically by glossing over everything the Joe Biden did in his 35 years in the Senate, you can make it seem like a fairly equivalent choice between the two… I’m no huge Biden fan, but seriously, making them seem equally experienced, seasoned and qualified seems like an unintentional joke…This should really be branded “An original MEDIOCRE video.”

i agree…this video makes Biden and Palin look like comparable veeps (and therefor comparable presidents should the #1 post die of old age, or get shot from a grassy knoll).  the only similarity i see in these two veeps is that they both balance out the ticket for their respective parties (at least superficially).  obama = inexperienced + young black guy :: biden = experienced + old white dude == balanced ticket.  mccain = experienced + old white dude :: palin = inexperienced + hot chick == balanced ticket.  if we take this mathematical approach to politics a step further and add another variable (the crazy factor), the mccain/palin ticket becomes severly unbalanced. mccain = senile + trigger happy vet :: palin = alaskan + bible thumper +  hockymom == crazy^5.

I don’t think it made them seem equally inexperienced — the video did point out that Obama was 11 and Palin was 8 when Biden graduated from law school. It was just an attempt to tell these candidates’ life stories, which I can appreciate. The only potential inaccuracy I found was the graphical representation of oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, which implied that it could end imports from the Middle East (a circle with a red slash through the region), when in fact the oil there would only account for a very small percentage of our overall demand.

I agree with the prior posts.  I think there should be added a “stack up” between the two VP’s accomplishments.  There is a clear choice here.

Agree with the others. Goes a little overboard in “neutrality” and is catchy but lightweight. Surely Good can do better.

Nice and very objective. Kind of refreshing! I’m tired of slant.Loved that picture of them sitting round the table at the end. That could easily be my favourite image of this election.

Calling the video mediocre because you disagree with the equal coverage between the veeps is a bit of hyperbole. I disagree that the choice seems equal between the two, and I like the objectivity. I am so weary of mean spiritedness in public discourse. GOOD is great.
