The mosque designed by Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu in Istanbul, Turkey, is now open, and it’s the first one in the country to have been designed by a woman.
That’s awesome, and inspirational, so let’s take a moment to look upon the impressive contours in the following photographs (from Radikal, where you can find many more) and celebrate whatever progress the accomplishment may signify.

Amazing architecture.
It’s pretty but it still is despicable.It’s still promoting one of the worst groupings of the skydaddy followers, even worse than the christians.
@Anonymous2 , 7:17 pm : STFU and enjoy the beautiful pictures =)
i don’t see a difference. it’s just like old ones. i’m a turk by the way.
All mosques in Turkey, and in fact many other places in the muslim world, have been based on Mimar Sinan’s work, who himself was inspired by Hagia Sophia. This mosque does not really challenge that ‘tradition’, however kudos to Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu for integrating new materials and changing the interiors so beautifully.I have to note that this is not the first mosque designed by a woman in Turkey. Perhaps it would be better to say, “first notable mosque designed by a famous female architect.”
Ademkader–”Perhaps it would be better to say, ‘first notable mosque designed by a famous female architect.’”Well-phrased. =)
I hope someday people don’t even care if something was made by a woman oa a man…. by 英語学習
I’m in Istanbul next week and would love to visit this mosque. Where exactly is it located and what is it called?shalini.
It’s called the Sakirin Mosque and it’s either in or adjacent to the Karacaahmet Cemetary on the Anatolian side of the city.
Wow, it is very beautiful. The exterior reminds me of older Ottoman-era masajid, while the interior is absolutely modern. Amazing.
Thank you for letting me know the location of the mosque. Appreciate it.
All I can say is WOW. Question what does the Stairway represent and the writting on the inside
Oh, my gosh. It’s the female equivalent of a phallic symbol. It resembles a uterus and fallopian tubes. </s>
BFD!
Magnificent mosque… she did greate job!
:D
The mosque was designed by architect Hüsrev Tayla, not byZeynep Fadıllıoğlu who actually is not an architect nor interior architect touched only the interior of the mosque.
