New Weapon for the Guerrilla Gardener: Seed Bombs

I love the idea of guerrilla gardening: subversively reclaiming the forgotten pockets of fertility in urban landscapes for the purposes of restoring pastoralism. (We’ve talked about horticulture jamming before.) Now, the traditionalists among you might scoff at the commercialization of the practice, but I love these pre-packaged “seed bombs”—a tiny, grenade-like ball of soil and seeds designed to be tossed out of moving cars into arid soil—of midwest wildflowers. You trade a little authenticity for a lot of mass appeal. And for the more hardcore, here are some instructions for making your own. It’s like a punk Miss Rumphius.

Mmm delicious.
Glad to see this idea shared a bite more – this was happening throughout the 80’s and 90’s in NYC’s East Village…just take a stroll through Alphabet City and notice some of the empty lots that have remained garden areas and been saved…Keep it up
Great, just what the world needs! A greater chance that people will introduce invasive species of plants. Nice sentiment though.
Put veggie seeds in your bombs to feed the starving masses of unemployed in the Americas! The ‘Factory Farms’ that feed us are run by Multi-national corporate rules! One slip towards the red-line, and the capital is gone! No love for us, no love for life! the bottom line is all that counts! These are not heartfelt farmers that feed us! Can’t happen in America? In a word, GM! Save your own ass, plant veggies not lawns! food and water are the next big crisis and test for the “American Dream” the unsustainable advertising trick foisted upon a good and unsuspecting people to make big profits and enslave them! The end is near! Chrysler and GM are obvious markers, AIG is sicker than ever! America’s Chernobyl will be Financial Derivatives! The ‘yuan’ has taken over international trade in the larger part of the world, and Gietner was laughed at in Beijing, for his foolish pratttle on world economics! Obama has been put on notice by a communist Chinese finance minister – no more big loans! and America is broke! Plant food, conserve water, cya!
This is an amazing idea – the authority’s aren’t giving us any green space back any time soon, so we need to re-claim it. Great stuff. http://londonvegetablegarden.blogspot.com
