On the 25th Anniversary of Chernobyl, Greenpeace Freaks Us Out About Indian Point
On the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl, I present to you (without endorsement or critique) this wildly, unapologetically sensational Greenpeace video about the potential threat posed by the Indian Point reactor, which sits a mere 30 or so miles north of New York City. As the video notes, 17 million people live within 50 miles of Indian Point.
You might recall from our "10 riskiest reactors" slideshow last month that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission actually considers Indian Point to have the highest odds of a an earthquake causing damage to the reactors core. Comforting! Greenpeace links to their nuclear reactor locator map , and make the point that one-third of Americans live within 50 miles of an active nuclear reactor.
Yesterday, we considered small, modular nukes as possibly a better bet.
