At this point we have a pretty good list of the problems that exist in the world, and a decent-but-growing list of the causes. What we're lacking is a list of solutions. Some would say the pressure is on the scientists, politicians, and business leaders of the world to develop those solutions. But why not you? You know that riding a bike is better (environmentally speaking) than driving a car, in the same way that reducing your beef intake is beneficial. Yet we have a hard time committing to these improved practices. With this project, we're hoping you will think about what's preventing you from acting on these positive impulses, and what inventions might remove those roadblocks. Do you not bike because you live somewhere rainy? Maybe you could invent a handlebar umbrella attachment. Do you hate the way tofu tastes? Maybe you could create a recipe for deep-fried delight. The possibilities are endless.UPDATE:
This Project is now closed to new submissions. We'll put up a post with everyone's entries tomorrow, April 2, 2010.the OBJECTIVE
Devise a simple, creative solution to a pressing global problem.the ASSIGNMENT
Our atmosphere may be filling with carbon and our oceans may be filling with plastic, but we global citizens have never been more filled with hope or creativity. We want to tap into that energy.Using your best DIY know-how, come up with an elegant solution to a global problem of your choosing. Maybe you think people drive to much; how could you get them to ride bikes? Maybe you feel like food packaging is wasteful; how could it be reduced? The best solutions should be easy to understand and even easier to replicate. Bonus points for an idea so original and so simple that it makes us slap our foreheads in disbelief that we hadn't thought of it before.the REQUIREMENTS
Post a comment, tweet @GOOD, or e-mail projects[at]goodinc[dot]com with a pressing global problem and your creative DIY solution. Your response can take the form of a paragraph, a sketch, an annotated photo-whatever you think will best convey your idea. Deadline is March 31st (and winners will be announced on April 6th).the PRIZE
