The P.S. 22 Chorus and American Idol Winner Phillip Phillips Team Up to Help Staten Island

Over the years we've enjoyed seeing students from the world-famous P.S. 22 Chorus steal the show at the 2011 Academy Awards, belt out incredible covers—they give Gotye's hit "Somebody That I Used to Know" new life—and they're even branching out into original songs. But P.S. 22 also calls Hurricane Sandy-ravaged Staten Island home, so they're teaming up with American Idol winner Phillip Phillips for an online benefit concert that they hope will make a difference in their own backyard.

On November 15th at 3 p.m. EST Phillips and the chorus will perform a 20-minute virtual concert through a livestream on StageIt.com. Anyone in the world can purchase a digital ticket—the suggested donation is $50 but folks are also welcome to pay what they can. All the money raised will go to The Red Cross and to the Siller Foundation.

Want a taste of what the concert might be like? In September the chorus performed a beautiful rendition of Phillips' aptly titled American Idol-winning single, "Home". Given what these students and their families have surely been through over the past week, it's hard not to get choked up hearing them sing this.
