California was like: Boy, bye!
President Donald Trump rolled into Los Angeles the afternoon of March 13, 2018, to dine with zillionaires and beg for money for his 2020 campaign and, presumably, “Space Force: The Movie.”
It was Trump’s first visit to California since he took office, even though he owns a light-blonde-colored, fake Tudor mansion in Beverly Hills – which has had some “?wall problems” of its own – and a failing golf course on a Palos Verdes cliff that could be swallowed by “?Waterworld”-style climate-change-induced rising tides just like his Irish resort.
Californians are accustomed to politicians using the state as an ATM for their campaigns, but Trump’s visit got a few locals riled up. A group of protesters braved the rain and Beverly Hills’ free-range tourists to make their voices heard. (OK, it wasn’t really raining that hard, but Angelenos — who are unfazed by earthquakes, fiery hellscapes, and an unceasing barrage of that Randy Newman song — are also rendered powerless by drizzles. And that’s also true about Trump’s hair, so at least they have that in common.)
GOOD sent one of our favorite Angeleno photographers, legendary photojournalist and 1992 L.A. riots chronicler Ted Soqui, to the protest to capture some of the more memorable messages of the political action.
