CBS has decided this ad for a gay dating site (video below) isn’t fit for the Super Bowl broadcast.[youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MQWFiIrBLAThere’s some commentary over at the Los Angeles Times suggesting that ManCrunch submitted the ad knowing it would be rejected as a publicity stunt. That’s not hard to believe given that it looks like the budget for the spot could have been in the single-digit thousands. But it did get rejected-even though it’s less risque than many beer commercials. CBS’s policy on the ads it will run is opaque. In the past they’ve said they won’t run “issue advertising.” Tim Tebow’s anti-abortion spot got approved though. And if we can handle that-and the rest of the sex and commercialism-I think we should be able to handle ManCrunch.I wonder if an Orbitz ad would have any trouble.

Why mass shootings spawn conspiracy theories
Mass shootings and conspiracy theories have a long history.
While conspiracy theories are not limited to any topic, there is one type of event that seems particularly likely to spark them: mass shootings, typically defined as attacks in which a shooter kills at least four other people.
When one person kills many others in a single incident, particularly when it seems random, people naturally seek out answers for why the tragedy happened. After all, if a mass shooting is random, anyone can be a target.
Pointing to some nefarious plan by a powerful group – such as the government – can be more comforting than the idea that the attack was the result of a disturbed or mentally ill individual who obtained a firearm legally.
