On Monday, Briar Lusia McQueen of Tauranga, New Zealand took her eight-week-old son, Jaxon, out to breakfast for the first time. For new parents, getting out of the house is a real treat, but it’s also a situation fraught with uncertainty. Will he cry? Will he need to be changed? Will the restaurant have a high chair? As McQueen was eating, her fears came true when Jaxon became fussy and started to cry.
Knowing that feeding him was the only thing she could do to quiet him down, she put the baby to her breast, being certain that she covered up. But as Jaxon started to nurse, an older woman approached the table. McQueen was nervous the woman would berate her for breastfeeding in public. But instead, she began cutting up McQueen’s breakfast for her while Jaxon fed. “What a good mama you are,” the lady said as she sliced her eggs. “We can’t have your food getting cold can we?”
That day, McQueen posted a photo of the lady on Facebook with the following caption:
“Just wanted to share this really sweet moment I had this morning. Today was the first time I went out for breakfast alone with my 8 week old son, I had just received my breakfast and hot chocolate when Jaxon started crying wanting his booby so of course I fed him, after a few minutes this older lady walked up to me, I was scared, thinking she was gonna tell me to put my boob away, instead she starts cutting up my breakfast for me and said ‘what a good mama you are, we can’t have your food getting cold can we?’
I honestly could have cried loveliest lady EVER!!
