That is awesome. Way to go! I love seeing this focus and energy from the next generation. I'm struck by two things: 1) how often it is the case that people awaken their conscience on trips abroad. For me, it was going to South Africa when I was 16, the summer after they signed the new constitution, but I've heard so many people who are engaged in social entrepreneurship tell there story and focus on an experience abroad as a key spark. 2) while not mentioned in this piece (except implicitly in tweens raising $10m for the hurricane), I am struck by how often big changes from important people in society are motivated at least in part by their children. Indeed, as the Lil' MGD's and Dylan clearly show, the world's young people can be potent agents of change. Right on.

Just thought of this post because I am in NY three years later and heard this song while having dinner at the bar at the ACE hotel. Still completely awesome. Something so right.

Sounds like a really interesting project, Amit. Will share with a couple of folks who have done similar work. Have you protoyped your design solution, or are you still doing research for that? Who are you thinking for a potential sponsor, and how much do you think you need?

Thanks for the great post. Just popped in my Thriller album, and remembering the day he passed, and everyone in Los Angeles was listening to Michael, and there was this great shared appreciation for his contribution. "Bad" was the first CD I ever had, but these days I prefer records for the same reason you point out.

Really interesting discussion, and ajturner, thanks for posting that map. Great stuff. I walk to work most days in Los Angeles, though generally wish the city was more pedestrian friendly. This thread reminds me of the design a livable street contest on this site, and recently I heard some of those designs are getting traction locally.

Max Schorr commented on Map of Every McDonald's in the Country 4 months ago
I found it interesting to learn recently that the original Farmers Markets were started as a way to get high quality, nutritious food to under served, inner city communities. Over time, they have taken on more of a role for serving yuppies.  Anyhow, my point is that I, or anyone else, can get more calories at McDonald's for $1 than just about anywhere else. In the next ten years, it will be interesting to see how this infrastructure and efficiency can be used for healthier food.
