Things are easier said than done, or so the old adage goes, and we couldn't agree more. That's why we do 30 Days of GOOD (#30DaysofGOOD), a monthly attempt to live better. Our challenge for July? Do It Yourself.

DIY isn't only about taking on home repairs and practical fix-up projects, it's also about making awesome (and sometimes awesomely weird) stuff just for the sake of doing it.

On that note, check out this wild 4th of July-themed project for photographers and video makers: Jeremiah Warren built an aerial photography rig using helium balloons and a camera-stabilizing Picavet cradle system—all so he could get a bird's-eye view of fireworks exploding. Whoa.

Warren details the ins-and-outs of his project on his site, including what type of gas worked best for maximum lift. You'll have to watch to find out if he was able to hit the setup with one of his rockets.

It's a pretty safe bet that most of us aren't ready to take on a project quite this elaborate, so let's spend another day working through yesterday's task of creating and sharing our DIY to-do lists. Have a great day, and I'll see you tomorrow to talk about the best way to build a basic tool set.

We're giving away $1000 for you to share your own DIY skills with others. Participate in our Host a GOOD Workshop challenge.
