Gambian rats can sniff out tuberculosis faster and cheaper than existing TB tests. The New York Times reports that:

The Gambian pouched rat apparently can smell the difference between tuberculosis bacilli and the myriad other germs that inhabit human phlegm.

Apparently this same rat has such a sensitive nose that it is also being used to sniff out land mines.
