Gambian rats can sniff out tuberculosis cheaper, faster, and more accurately than existing smear test.
The Gambian pouched rat apparently can smell the difference between tuberculosis bacilli and the myriad other germs that inhabit human phlegm.

Apparently this same rat has such a sensitive nose that it is also being used to sniff out land mines.
