Mesa Verde Elementary Mourns Arizona Shooting Victim Christina-Taylor Green

Schools across the nation are doing their best to talk with students about the tragedy. No place is that more true than at Mesa Verde Elementary.

In the aftermath of Saturday's shootings in Arizona, schools across the nation are doing their best to talk with students about the tragedy. No place is that more true than at Mesa Verde Elementary School in Tuscon. Nine year old shooting victim Christina-Taylor Green was a third grader at the school.

Mesa Verde's principal, Foster Helper, issued a statement on the school's website.

We are all devastated by the events of Saturday. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the families of those touched by this unthinkable event. The entire Mesa Verde family is particularly saddened by the loss of one of our students, Christina-Taylor Green, a Mesa Verde third grader. Christina was a wonderful, kind student. She touched the hearts of many students and adults here at Mesa Verde. Her beaming smile was infectious and she was well known by many students here at Mesa Verde.

This horrible event took the life of a spirited, bright, young girl who, in her beautiful way, provided all of us here at Mesa Verde with wonderful memories. She will not be forgotten. Our hearts go out to her family and our Mesa Verde family.

Green had just been elected president of Mesa Verde's student council. Sadly, it was her interest in the political process that attracted her to Rep. Gabrielle Giffords's Congress on the Corner event.
