A couple days ago The Los Angeles Timesran a piece about Oscar acceptance speeches-how actors tend to use the forum as a political bully pulpit, especially during a presidential election year. But with nearly all of this year's major winners residing outside American borders, the political agenda a non-factor. The foreigners kept their mouths shut about American politics...so that foreign critics could focus on who "won" the implicit acceptance speech contest.
