Above is Kevin DeAnna, president of the nonprofit group Youth for Western Civilization, at last week’s Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C. In case you don’t know, YWC is an organization that seeks “to organize, educate, and train activists dedicated to the revival of Western Civilization.” It’s also a hate group, and it’s slowly spreading to university campuses around the country.
Though DeAnna claims in this video to be nothing more than a conservative sympathizer, the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Hatewatch arm has been following DeAnna’s movements for years now, and it begs to differ. According to Hatewatch, DeAnna, who is now a graduate student at American University, has been involved pretty directly with noted racist youth groups for quite some time:
[DeAnna] has posted several times in recent years to the Spartan Spectator, the website of the Michigan State University chapter of Young Americans for Freedom, or MSU-YAF.
In 2007, the Southern Poverty Law Center identified MSU-YAF as a hate group after it organized a “Catch an Illegal Alien Day” game, sponsored a “Koran desecration contest,” jokingly threatened to distribute small-pox infected blankets to Native American students, posted “Gays spread AIDS” fliers, called Latino students and faculty members “savages,” and invited Nick Griffin, the chairman of the neofascist British National Party, to speak on the MSU campus.
Another YWC associate is Marcus Epstein. According to Hatewatch, Epstein had once identified himself as a co-founder of YWC, but he’s since retracted that statement. What is known for sure is that Epstein is a close friend of DeAnna’s and the YWC, and that, in 2007, he was arrested for karate chopping an African-American woman in the head and calling her a “nigger” in downtown D.C. According to witnesses, Epstein was completely unprovoked in the assault—he just wanted to hit a black person.
The student activism organization For Student Power says that YWC currently has chapters at nine locations, including Vanderbilt University, Elon University, and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. They’re also actively recruiting new chapters all the time. All you need to join is four members, a permanent mailing address, and a desire to destroy multiculturalism, which the YWC says is “really about destroying and dispossessing the people and culture of the West, not about an appropriate education about other peoples.”
