Teacher Al Vernacchio believes that the words and metaphors we use to talk about sex have a huge impact on how we approach intimacy as a society. Here, in his TED Talk entitled, “Sex Needs a New Metaphor,” he discusses how many of our commonly used euphemisms for sex come from the world of baseball. Vernacchio believes this outlook creates heterosexist, homophobic, and competitive images of sexuality that are far from healthy.
Instead of using baseball as our go-to game for metaphors, Vernacchio proposes something entirely different but just as popular—pizza.
