As lovers of design, social and environmental causes, and the word "good," it would be hard for us not to rally around the 2009 Good50x70 competition. The premise is simple: advertisements bombard us every day with messages about what to buy or how to live. What if those ads were for good causes? Now in its third year, the Good50x70 organizers select seven topics for entrants to focus on-everything from climate change to HIV/AIDS-and then ask them to design a poster (50x70 presumably being a reference to the dimensions of said poster, though seeing as it appears to be in metric units, I have no way of knowing if they're looking for a matchbook or a billboard). The competition is open to anyone, and draws top talent from the design world and beyond. Winners have their work showcased in international exhibitions and in a book, and the posters are also used by nonprofit partners who represent the areas of focus. You can download the call for entries here, and the deadline for submissions is April 1st. Below are some winners from previous years.
Thanks Sebastian.
