A new study has cast some doubt on the "broken windows theory" of crime fighting, which has been lauded as the leading cause of reducing crime in New York (and, whose main practitioner, William Bratton, is the police chief of LA). Apparently, instead of cops targeting small crime in order to make run down neighborhoods nice again, they just target minorities.

And, over on his blog, Malcolm Gladwell, who has often advocated the broken windows theory, responds (here, and then here) to criticisms by the authors of Freakonomics.

Why mass shootings spawn conspiracy theories

Last year, Superdrug Online Doctor created a project, “Perceptions of Perfection" that showed what people in 18 countries think the “perfect" woman looks like. The project was a viral hit.
