This past Saturday there were six launch events for Generation Obama, the candidate's new arm of young professional supporters. His campaign has been successful with small donations and is trying to leverage local social networks.

At the LA event, City Council President Eric Garcetti, an Obama supporter, asked the crowd of 20- and 30-somethings to close their eyes and imagine the world as they'd like it to be, a world in which America is admired and looked to as a beacon of hope.

Whether or not you think Obama's the man for the job, it was a worthwhile exercise in positive visualization. The brief moment of public solemnity made a few members of Generation Irony nervous, but it was as close to praying as we've come in years.
