As you have probably heard (unless you woke up in your cave this morning and have just stumbled to the internet cafe) New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg changed his party affiliation from Republican to Independent. Why did he do this? Certainly not because he wants to run for President as an Independent. We will say this about Bloomberg, not everything he's done in New York has been perfect, but it's refreshing to find someone willing to govern based on a meritocracy of ideas, not of ideology. Whether this would work in the White House, or, more importantly, on the campaign trail, that remains to be seen. You can read our earlier post about Bloomberg here.
