See Art Made by Guantamo Detainees


At Guantanamo Bay, prisoners can take art classes as a reward for good behavior. Either those art classes are very effective, or the detainees take a lot of them, because their art is quite impressive. Not surprisingly, landscapes are prominent, though many look more like the Maine coast than anywhere the detainees have called home.

Though the authorities at the prison used to forbid photographing the art, they have recently lifted that ban, and Slate has a slideshow of some the art. I've included a few of my favorites below, but check out the full piece here.
