Fox News’ Shep Smith Calls Out Trump For Amazon Lie

Smith has a long history of infuriating Fox News viewers by calling out Trump’s lies.

THE GOOD NEWS:

Shep Smith continues to be one of the few Fox News anchors who will call Trump out when he lies.

Taking a page out of the autocrat’s handbook, President Donald Trump has been using the bully pulpit of the presidency to attack Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos. According to sources close to Trump, he’s obsessed with Bezos because he also owns The Washington Post, a paper that has been critical of the president.

On Thursday, March 29, Trump took to Twitter to attack Bezos and Amazon for taking advantage of the United States Post Office to further its business interests. The tweets caused Amazon’s stock to drop the next Monday.

On Tuesday, April 3, Shep Smith once again broke ranks with the rest of Fox News by taking Trump to task for his misleading tweets. Smith has a long history of infuriating Fox viewers by fact checking Trump’s statements

“As for taxpayers,” Smith explained, “the post office’s own website points out, and I quote, ‘The postal service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses.’” Instead, the service “relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to fund its operations.”

Smith then pointed to a Citigroup report which shows that the postal service was charging $1.46 below market rates for package delivery, but the bulk rate available to everyone.

“But our researchers point out, if that discount exists, it’s not just for Amazon ? it’s a bulk rate discount,” he said. “There is a great deal of confusion or something here regarding Amazon and the post office because none of that was true.”
