Earlier today, at a campaign rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump hinted that gun rights advocates should kill Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. In a speech about Second Amendment rights, Trump made the false assertion that Clinton would abolish the Second Amendment if she was able to fill the current Supreme Court vacancy. “If she gets to pick her judges — nothing you can do folks. Although the Second Amendment people maybe there is. But I tell you what, that will be a horrible day.”
By suggesting that gun rights advocates with no options left take action against Clinton, leading to a “horrible day,” Trump has made a clear threat on Clinton’s life. There’s no way to spin his comments in light of his recent reckless request for the Russian government to hack Clinton’s emails and constant complaints that she’s conspiring to rig the election. Trump’s statements are sure to provoke a reaction from U.S. intelligence agencies, but will the Republican Party finally show some backbone by pulling the plug on Trump’s dangerous campaign?
