‘He says things we’re thinking or probably want to say.’
A poll conducted by RealClearPolitics in September asked “Who Are Trump’s Supporters?” Here’s what they learned from a demographic perspective:
-- Half are between 45 and 64 years of age, with another 34 percent over 65 years old and less than 2 percent younger than 30.
-- 20 percent of his supporters describe themselves as “liberal” or “moderate,” with 65 percent saying they are “conservative” and only 13 percent labeling themselves as “very conservative.”
-- They skew slightly more female than male.
-- They earn less than the average Republican.
-- Half of his voters have a high school education or less, compared to 19 percent with a college or postgraduate degree.
We know who Trump’s supporters are from a demographic perspective, but the perplexing question is, Why do they support him as a candidate? Do they find his relentless bullying of the disabled, women, and fellow presidential candidates appealing? Do his overtly racist views and policies regarding Mexicans, Muslims, and African-Americans mirror their own? Do they really believe that Trump can “Make America Great Again”? Correspondent Jordan Klepper from The Daily Show rounded up a group of Trump supporters in Las Vegas to find out why they support the real estate mogul and just how far he can go before losing their support. What he found was shocking.
