VIDEO: Piedmont Blues as Living History Lesson

A committed high school history teacher and his students help keep the North Carolina Piedmont Blues tradition strong.


Raleigh, North Carolina high school history teacher Charles Montague, along with his students, are helping to preserve blues music in the hilly Piedmont region of that state. They call the program "SOOTS," and with the help of a Pepsi Refresh grant, they are collapsing historic cultural divides and keeping musicians like George Higgs strumming to fresh ears.
