A Crazy Pricing Scheme for a Crazy Car

Meyers Motors is getting ready to sell their slightly goofy, three-wheeled DUO electric vehicle, and has come up with an interesting pricing strategy. The car gets cheaper as more people pre-order it. Gas2.0 explains:
For every 200 pre-orders they get, they'll knock $1,000 off of the MSRP of $29,995, all the way down to their goal of $24,995…and that is before any federal or local tax credits. Meyers unveiled the three-wheel DUO back in September, and will be accepting pre-orders through June 5th of 2010. You can reserve a duo for as little as $250, and the deposit is 100% refundable for any reason, and after June 5th Meyers Motors will set final pricing.
This is a smart way to encourage sales, share the economies of scale with consumers, and build camaraderie among DUO buyers. Nice work. (Why they chose the mutant Porsche look for this thing, I'm not sure.)
