Autism Checklist: White, Educated, Old

Ever since I met Ruby, stories about autism have taken on new meaning. Her family's struggle to find an appropriate school where Ruby's needs can be met is at the crux of the dilemma our nation currently faces. And as more kids are diagnosed with autism (1 in 100 American 8-year-olds), the issue takes on a greater sense of urgency.Yesterday, NPR aired a story about a new study from University of California, Davis researchers. It found that in places where parents tend to be white, older, and better educated, greater clusters of children with autism result not because of chemicals or pollution (no link)-but because their kids get diagnosed more often. So is the solution here more testing? And who foots the bill?
