‘It’s just another person eating’

Last weekend, Naomi Jael Covert, 21, an army wife in Vilseck, Germany was having fun at a wedding when her 10-month-old son, T.J., became hungry. With the help of some wedding guests, she loosened a strap on her dress began feeding her son amid the festivities. “It’s just normal – you have conversations with people while feeding the child,” she told Buzzfeed. “It is nothing sexual. It’s just another person eating.” She shared the photo on Instagram that night, and after it was re-posted by the empoweredbirthproject’s Instagram account, it began to go viral.
The next morning, Covert saw a bunch of comments where people criticized her for breastfeeding at the wedding.

Some criticized Covert’s actions as a ploy for attention, but she insists she was just having fun. “I made the silly face because it’s literally not a big deal to feed your baby,” she told Buzzfeed. “It’s just a breast; that’s what God gave me to use when baby is hungry.” Some said that she should have covered up while she fed, but Covert knew that her son would have ripped the blanket off. All in all, Covert was shocked that her photo went viral, but happy she could take a stand for breastfeeding mothers everywhere. “I wanted to show that it’s literally no big deal to breastfeed, no matter the circumstances.”
