Librarian Wins Big on Jeopardy

She won $40,000

“Own it,” “Do you,” “Keep it real...” There are a thousand ways we tell each other to “be yourself.” Usually, it’s the people who are loud about their authenticity that grab all the attention, but last night on Jeopardy America fell in love with a quiet librarian for being herself. Margaret Miles is a librarian from Wilmington, North Carolina and last night she won big on Jeopardy, but it was her polite bookishness that has received all the attention.

“What do you do for fun?” host Alex Trebek asked Miles. “Knit and pet cats. I’m hopelessly stereotypical,” she responded. She would go on to win $40,000 on the show and Miles attributes her success to her profession. “Librarians are who we are because we love both answers and questions. It’s a pleasure to share what we know, and even more fun to get the chance to learn something new while finding an answer to someone’s question,” she told The Huffington Post. “I think it would be especially cool if seeing some buzz about a librarian on Twitter and Facebook reminds people to share some love with their local librarians.”

So next time you’re at your local public library, give some love to the librarian, they may wind up on Jeopardy one day.
