“I’m such a happy Chewbacca!”
Candace Payne (Facebook)
Laugh it up, fuzzball.
Rest assured Candace Payne, we’re laughing with you not at you. The Texas mom created a viral storm on Thursday when she used Facebook Live to show the world her new Chewbacca mask. Nearly 50 million people have already watched the four-minute clip, with 1.5 million of them sharing it on their own Facebook pages.
The self-described huge Star Wars fan, dressed in a Death Star t-shirt, picked up the mask as “part of my birthday joy,” a delightful little present to herself. “I’d like to say that I bought this for my son. He’ll probably try to take it from me. But at the end of the day it’s mine and I’m gonna keep it for my own,” she says before donning the fantasy hero’s visage. The otherwise simple plastic mask emits Chewie’s signature howl when the person wearing it opens their own mouth, making it look like they are a Kashyyk native in the flesh.
“That’s not me making the noise, it’s the mask,” she says as the laughter really kicks in.
And that’s when Payne loses her mind, breaking into uncontrollable laughter while the Wookie howl mirrors her like a dog under the hypnotic spell of a full moon. “Oh, I’m such a happy Chewbacca,” she wrote after posting the video to her page. “Thanks for all the feels, Internet webs. I mean it. Now? Bed is calling my name.” Great kid, don’t get cocky.
