Doctors Without Borders Prepares for Emergency in Sudan

With possible violence expected after the January election, the health organization is making its plans now.



The Medecin Sans Frontiers podcast explains the preparations the organization is making for basic health care in Sudan in preparation for the Jan 9 referendum. MSF teams are preparing for ongoing medical challenges and are readying for disease outbreaks, refugee needs and emergency response to potential malnutrition and violence.

In addition to providing a range of medical services in 13 states of Sudan, at this moment MSF is battling to contain the biggest kala azar outbreak in eight years.

MSF has inflatable emergency medical tent kits and cholera kits the size of a small bus that are put together by their logistical supply centers in Europe. Here is a video of these inflatable hospitals being used in Pakistan:
