John Oliver on Orlando Shooting: The Terrorists Are Vastly Outnumbered By Good People

‘It kind of reminds you that terrorist dipshit is vastly outnumbered.’

John Oliver used the opening of his HBO show Sunday night to send a powerful message about the tragic shooting in Orlando. Episodes of “Last Week Tonight” are taped in advance, so there was no way for Oliver and his team to dedicate the entire episode to the breaking news. Instead, he offered a powerful two-minute message that can be best summed up as: “The terrorists are outnumbered.”

“Right now, this just hurts,” Oliver said. “The worst thing is, this pain is so familiar. In Paris, last November terrorists seem to target places symbolizing everything that is wonderful about France: culture, music, restaurants.”

“It’s hard to even know what to do in the wake of an event like this,” Oliver continued. “For now, on a day when some dipshit terrorist wants us to focus on one man’s act of brutality and hatred, it might be worth seeing this video, which was posted to Twitter today. It shows hundreds and hundreds of people this morning lining up around the block in Florida waiting to donate blood. And it kind of reminds you that that terrorist dipshit is vastly outnumbered.”
