While most record labels work hard to promote their artists' image, Fake Flamingo takes a different approach. "What we're doing is a response to the current phenomena of selling identity rather than music," says the label's owner who, like all of Fake Flamingo's artists, chooses to remain anonymous. "The premise is simple. We have the goal of releasing a digital single each week, each created by a musician working under a pseudonym."
So far, Fake Flamingo has put out 40 tracks, including this week's Sounds GOOD release. The elegant and earnest "Everyone Distorts" is written and performed by a veteran artist using the alias Puerto Pobre.
"The ability for an artist to create new sounds without having to reference their past work has proved to be quite freeing," says Fake Flamingo's owner. "The music is the product, not the person. We hope that you enjoy the art as much as we have enjoyed putting it together."
